Taking a moment to say Thank You.

in A gift for you

I’ve been blogging at this site for a couple of months now and I wanted to take a moment and say thank you. You have taken the time to read these posts, to share them with others, and to comment on them – and I’m grateful for that.  We are living in a busy world with many distractions that take our minds from one place to another.  I know this because I live in the same busy world too.  As a blogger, I commit to sharing only what I think is worth reading – and I hope that I do that well.

I’m taking this time now to share this thanks with you, because I’m about to celebrate the Jewish New Year with my family.  Although this event is celebrated by a tiny subset of the world population, it carries a universal message.  We are all connected, and we all hope for a better future.  And every so often it’s a good idea for each of us, as individuals and as members of our respective communities, to take a moment and reflect upon the journey that brought us to where we are and the direction we plan to take in the days and months ahead.

People all over the world notice that this is a season of change.  Those of us in the northern hemisphere are entering autumn while those in the southern hemisphere are seeing spring emerge.  These are times that every person and culture takes a moment to celebrate the seasons that past and prepare for the seasons ahead. We perform these kinds of thank you rituals because they strengthen our character and our community.  So whether it’s “FollowFriday” on Twitter, Thanksgiving in the US, or your goodnight kiss that you give a family member every night — these rituals are good.

While I go though my moments of reflection, I recognize that this past year has brought much joy and opportunity.  It has also brought some significant challenges.  It was a tough year for many of us.  And if we can wake up in the morning and face the challenges ahead – then we’ll be tougher because of it.  As long as we can also become softer and more sensitive, then the toughness will help us be better people and better prepared for the year ahead.

So thank you for letting me be part of your community, for letting me share my thoughts with you, and for you sharing them with me and others.  I wish us all a future of health, peace, and fulfillment.  A good year to all.
